Introduction

This website is designed to share news and information as we plan and prepare for our exciting rugby tour to Australia in 2027.

We hope it proves to be informative and helpful to our long serving families, current supporters and those wishing to help and support the final chapter of our rugby journey together.

Our story so far...

We are a band of brothers that have grown up playing rugby together since we were 7 years old. We play for a small community rugby team from the heart of rural Stirlingshire in Scotland.  However, our coach for all these years is a native of Cowra in New South Wales. It has always been his and our dream to one day play rugby 'down under'. As we near the end of our youth rugby years, and go our separate ways as adults, we are desperate to finally make this dream come true.

We are throwing all our energy and resources into coming to Australia in July 2027. But even we can not achieve this dream on our own.

The early years

Most of the boys started playing rugby between the ages of 7 and 9 years old, meeting up every Sunday morning to either train or play in Minis Tournaments all around the west of Scotland. Right from the beginning it was clear that this was more than just a group of children wanting to play rugby, but a community of boys that grew in numbers, year on year, as more and more families wanted to join in.

The Covid years

Like the rest of the world, our rugby team had to stop during the global pandemic of 2020. However, the families and coaches stayed in touch and the rugby club was the first community group in the local area to open up again after restrictions were lifted. This coincided with their important transition from primary to secondary school. The coaches identified the importance of using their shared journey and experience to help the boys make what was at the time a very daunting next step in their school education. They organised and set up a camping and team building event in their garden which proved to be a highlight for so many of the boys at that time.

The midi years

At the age of 12 years old, the team moved into Scotland's midi category and hit the ground running. Beginning to develop their own brand of rugby and perform well above that expected for a small club. Many new players joined the group and some moved away to focus on other sports and interests.

In May 2023, the team played in the SP Energy Networks Glasgow Warriors Tournament at Scotstoun, Glasgow. After many rounds of rugby against a wide variety of teams we were ultimately winners of the Under 14s Championship.

Just a few months later, the team learned that three of their own players had been scouted and offered the incredible opportunity to take up rugby scholarships at a prestigious boarding school on the other side of Scotland. Whilst the rugby team were sad to lose three of their kindest, most genuine friends and talented team mates, they understood this unprecedented offer was too good for them to turn down. The three have stayed in touch and still play for us when they can, and will undoubtedly be the first on the plane to Australia in 2027!

The colts years

Moving into the colts years, the team needed to rebuild and kept on recruiting new players from the local community; mostly with no rugby experience of their own. But the team bond remained strong and parents ever more supportive. In March 2024 they had their first ever tour experience, heading to the north of England to play two rugby games against two big rugby clubs with a great pedigree of their own. Whilst winning one and losing one on the field, the boys made new friends and endeared themselves to their hosts, receiving many accolades not just for their sportsmanship but their behaviour and manners wherever they went.

In June 2025 the team got their first taste of an international tournament; playing in the Viking Cup in Gothenburg, Sweden. It was yet again the same story; high praise from everybody they met including the hostel staff, tournament organisers and opposition coaches and parents. But this time they went one better; in a tournament hosting the very best teams in Norway, Sweden and Denmark, the boys came away as winners of the U16s Viking Cup 2025.

The Australia Connection

Throughout the whole of our rugby journey, there has been one constant in our lives; Coach Jason. He has been the heartbeat, motivator and mentor through the good times and the tough ones. An incredible rugby coach who's only failing is being an Aussie... 😉

Here are a few words from Jason...

I’ve been with this group of boys for the past 10 years and have loved every minute of watching the team grow, mature, and develop both on and off the field. It’s been a proper journey and a real privilege to be part of.

I’m originally from Cowra, NSW, where my sporting roots began in rugby league. I didn’t pick up rugby union until I was 15 at school, but I was hooked quickly and went on to play for the Cowra Eagles.

After moving to Sydney, I pulled on the boots for Drummoyne Rugby, competing in the tough and competitive NSW Suburban Rugby — an environment that shaped my outlook on the game: work hard for your mates, earn the right to play, and enjoy the contest.

In 2005, I made the move from Sydney to Scotland and continued my playing career with Edinburgh Accies, Linlithgow RFC, and the Strathendrick Mens. Experiencing rugby across both hemispheres has had a huge influence on how I coach and how I look to develop players.

Alongside my role here, I’m also proud to coach the mighty Strathendrick U14s, continuing my passion for developing young players and passing on a genuine love of the game.
